ORLANDO, Fla. — For many central Florida counties, the new school year begins next week. Whether families are preparing for their child to return to class or starting school for the first time, we’ve put together a roundup of the following back-to-school events happening this weekend.

Orange County

Central Florida Homeless Coalition

Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon

The Central Florida Coalition for the Homeless will be providing school supplies, school clothes, gift cards, haircuts, and a limited number of new tablets, laptops, and wireless headphones at their back-to-school event. school on Saturday.

Free popcorn and candies will also be offered during the event.

Osceola County

Kissimmee backpack gift

Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon.

The Osceola County Salvation Army will be hosting a free back-to-school backpack giveaway on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.

This drive-in event at the Osceola Emergency Service Center will provide parents with backpacks full of school supplies from the comfort of their cars. Although pre-registration is not required, a child must be present.

The organization will be joined by County Commissioner Peggy Coudhry.

Supplies will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Marion County

Marion County Health Department Vaccine Event

Saturday 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

The Florida Department of Health in Marion County will host a vaccination event Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Vaccinations are free and no appointment is necessary.

They will be offered at the headquarters of the department. Click on here for a map at the address.

For all families who cannot attend the event, the Ministry of Health will continue to provide free vaccines until August 12 at their office.

Ocala Old School DJ School Supplies Gift

Sunday 10 a.m.

An Ocala community group called Old School DJ Crew will help children as they return to school.

The Sunday School Backpack and Supplies is a free event to help struggling families in times of need.

Organizer Samuel Melton Jr. said there will also be free food and music.

The event will start at 10 a.m. and last until 4 p.m., or until all backpacks are gone.

Volusia County

Annual DeLand Mayor’s Backpack Giveaway

Saturday, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The 12th annual Mayor’s Backpack Donation and Community Health Initiative will feature vendors throughout the park to provide school supplies.

Backpacks will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and once families have lined up they will be given a ticket to ensure they receive one.

The health fair will offer HIV tests, blood pressure tests, vaccinations for children from kindergarten to grade 7, glucose and cholesterol tests.

The DeLand Police Athletic League will be giving away a limited supply of Nike shoes on a first-come, first-served basis.

Back to school party at the Volusia shopping center

Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Volsuia Mall Back-to-School Bash is hosted by Liberty Dental Plan of Florida and Touch of Magic Events.

The free Saturday event will feature arts and crafts, face painting and contests.

Liberty Dental Plan will distribute free dental kits to keep children healthy.

United Way Volusia-Flagler Counties Stuff the Bus Donation Event

Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties will host a Stuff the Bus event at Tanger Outlets Daytona Beach.

The organization will collect shoes, clothes, technological accessories (like headphones and USB keys) and school supplies.

Seminole County

14th Annual Kids of HOPE Back to School Party

Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

HOPE will host its 14th annual Kids of HOPE Back to School Bash on Saturday at the First Church in Oviedo.

Local children in need can choose a new backpack and buy school supplies, socks, underwear and toiletries.

Children will also be eligible for eye screening, fluoride treatments, a free family lunch and access to local resource agencies.

There will be appearances by Star Wars characters and service dogs.

This event is for registered families only.
